VET BILLS
Oh boy, do they have huge vet bills. All of Forever Friends & Amazing Grey's rescue animals who are saved get de-sexed, C5 vaccinated, microchipped, dental care, worm and flea treatment.
Some ex-racing greyhounds have also mysterious and old injuries: broken bones, muscle tears, tendon injuries.
Some of these have not been attended to when they occurred and have sort of healed, but not properly. Intermittent lameness is often the result, and vet trips for pain relief are necessary.
ESSENTIALS
Every foster dog gets their own bag of essentials. When a greyhound arrives in foster care, they have nothing but a cheap plastic collar fastened tight around their neck.
The team purchases products like a collar, lead, harness, bed, fleece coat for winter, bowls, toys and treats for the new arrival to settle into fostercare, and these become their belongings when it is time to move into their forever home.
Pet Pawz helps out weekly by donating new beds, injury ramps, gates & more to help this process become as smooth as possible.
LEARNING
The typical rescue animal does not learn much about the world outside of racing kennels and farm life.
New sights, sounds and smells can be scary at first, and skills such as loose lead walking, polite interactions with other animals and being happy to be home alone for a short time need to be learned.
